“As daughter of our ruler I grew up in the crossfire of an ongoing war… All I’d ever wanted to be was a great warrior and ultimately lead my people into victorious battles.”
With only a small army at her command Halíka Dacomé, a skilled warrior and daughter of the Elemental King, is ready to lead one final battle to save her planet. A battle against the savage, bloodthirsty Primords who want to extinguish the diminished race of Elementals once and for all.
But before battle commences her father is given an ultimatum from the enemy leader, Arfron Uhnok. If the king agrees, Halíka Dacomé must marry Arfron Uhnok to prevent further bloodshed. If the king disagrees they, as a race, will all perish.
Horrified by her fathers decision Halíka Dacomé leads her army onward regardless of the consequences. Because her heart belongs to another. A love that blossomed many years ago. A love that her father has forbidden.
Halíka faces her toughest battle yet and learns that not all battles are those fought with a sword…
The Battle for Arcanon Major is an epic love story set against the backdrop of war and is the first Prequel to Elemental: The First.

INTERVIEW
My Grandmother – Mabel Atkinson who passed away when I was 14. I never really got to know her but she’s was a model and chief buyer for Selfridge’s in London in the days of the TV series Mr Selfridge
What is your dream cast for your book?
Chris Pine as Nerído Xipile.
Nicholas Hoult as Jerík
René Russo as Capíok’s sister
What was your favorite book when you were a child/teen?
When you were little, what did you want to be when you “grew up”?
You know when you finish a book or a series and it doesn’t end how you wanted it to. Either the story runs off on a tangent, not in the direction you expected. That is when I knew I wanted to be an author. And I write what I would want to read. So two birds, one stone
What movie and/or book are you looking forward to this year?
I can’t wait to watch Thor 2. I loved the first film. I’m actually a Marvel Films addict, I love them! But Thor was amazing, I love Norse mythology.
How do you react to a bad review?
What’s your favorite season/weather?
Favorite quote from a movie?
“Hey Johnny, I’ll see you in another life” – Point Break

Hot or Cold??
Hot, so I can swim in the Mystric Sea. Hally used to take me a few times before she got all warrior-like.Black or White??
Our uniforms are Grey. Black and White are Xipilé colours so I’d have to decline that one.
Early bird catches the worm. Or maybe a Primord or two. We don’t have many birds at home. Just the odd Sparrow-hawk..
Horror or Romance??
Romance, I’m all about the romance. Just the other day, with the baker’s daughter…um, I guess you don’t want to hear that story.
Action or Drama??
Action. Drama is way too dramatical!
Summer or Winter?
Summer! Winter clothes chafe and the armour’s too tight. Less clothes the better.
Spontaneity or Planning Ahead??
I’m all about the spontaneity. Kind of goes against my sister. She’s a planner. I guess I’m a black sheep with wicked hair!
Shoes or Sandals??
Sandals. Sand gets everywhere where I live
Cats or Dog?
Cat or Dog? Oh, you mean Apeth or Scant. Scant’s are way better. Zaquinto, Halíka’s scant is one of my best friends. What? You think that’s weird? Scant’s are clean. Apeth’s dirty.
Truth or Dare?
Dare! Just can’t resist a dare. I had to climb the roof of the palace once. Let me to you, its not easy crawling onto a dome
Introvert or Extrovert??
Always in shadow or always in sunlight. The sun is always brighter so I guess I’m an extrovert! Oh, yes, that’s me!
Words you try not to use.
Why women Sci-Fi writers putting a spark back into my life
I’ve always loved Science Fiction, especially movies. The first film I ever saw at the cinema was Star Wars. In 1978. I was seven. And I fell in love with Luke Skywalker as he watched over the dunes with the twin moons rising in the sky. You know the scene.??Someday, I thought, someday I want to invent a world just like that.
My childhood was unusual. We moved every four years (something I’ve related to in my books) and so no matter how settled I ever got I always knew I would be moving on. The worst years were when I was 12 and 16. I left real true friends behind at 12 and at 16 I left a boyfriend too. Heartache or what. Especially for an angst-ridden teenager. Everything you read about in YA books is absolutely real. I suffered.
So my solace was Sci-Fi. To dive in deep into a world that wasn’t my own. To feel so overwhelmed with someone else’s emotion. Live with the characters. Breathe in their life and forget my own.
I spent a long time reading Sci-Fi Fantasy. My Dad and brother were also readers of it so our house was always littered with David Eddings, Terry Brooks and Tad Williams books. But I got bored. All the main protagonists were male. All doing the same quest. Finding a sword, a chalice, a stone etc. Occasionally there’d be a love interest but nearly always a sappy, waif-like girl who needed rescuing. So I started looking for women writers. There weren’t many. Until I discovered Tamora Pierce, Mary Stewart and Diana Wynn Jones.
My world exploded. Finally I was reading about women who were adventurers, who had guts and confidence that awed and inspired me. As a teenager the characters raised me to be a better person, to help the helpless and oppress the bullies. I think my parents noticed a difference. My boyfriends certainly started to become taller, wider in the shoulders, and not so adolescent.
What I love about women sci-fi writers is that they tell a story with more emotion. And for young teenagers or young adults who need guidance in their lives from bullies, or a bad home situation, or just living in the wrong area – the characters can lift your spirits and encourage you to overcome whatever hurdles lie in your way. It’s no good thinking that someone will come along and help you with your burdens, you have to gather your confidence and deal with whatever life throws at you.
Now I’m a Sci-Fi writer and a woman. My only hope is that I can inspire someone, maybe just one person, to be better. That will make it all worth while.
