Movie Review: The Last Straw

the last straw
The Last Straw?

Christmas is supposed to be a season of love, warm feelings, and happy hearts. But with the childrens constant bickering, pretty packages and a sweet-smelling tree dont come close to filling the McDonald home with the true spirit of the first Christmas. Then Mom remembers an old tradition of building a soft bed for Baby Jesus one straw at a time. Each time someone secretly does something nice for another family member, he or she gets to add a single straw to the manger. Soon the childrens quarreling and negative feelings subside and the homemade crib is overflowing. But for one family member, a required act of kindness becomes more than he can take. The Last Straw is a true story.

While up north last week I had the chance to attend the screening for The Last Straw. This is an inspirational family friendly Christmas movie that will have a limited run in?theaters in a couple weeks and be released to DVD?in the middle of November.

The Christmas tradition of building a bed for Baby Jesus by adding piece of straw to a manager each time an act of kindness is done is something I am sure many people have heard of. ?This?is a movie based on that tradition. ?If you enjoy feel good family films then you will want to see this one. It has a great message and it has to be?nearly?impossible to do anything ?but feel good after watching it.

Overall this movie was well acted. ?There were a few?scenes where the acting seemed a little rough but for the most part it was genuine. ?This is a lower budget independent film but there were a couple well known cast members including?Corbin Bernsen (Psych, L.A. Law) who gave a fabulous performance as Mr. G.

Following the movie the cast and crew came up on stage for a Q&A. The kids stole the show as we got to see one of them do his back flip from the movie and another so adorably cute as she answered our questions. ?I admired the director’s comments on making a wholesome family movie worth watching. There is so much garbage out there it is nice to have an inspirational movie that I can get behind to support.
