RC (Really Cool) Hancock began his writing career with a story about a dead cat which his second grade teacher thought was brilliant. Convincing others of his literary genius has taken longer than expected, but along the road he has acquired a lovely wife, four entertaining ankle-biters (who, thankfully, look more like their mother), and a degree from BYU in Recreational Management & Youth Leadership (which means he’s really good at having fun.) An Uncommon Blue is his first novel.

Please tell us in one sentence only, why we should read your book.
Because all the books your really want to read are on hold at the library. ??
Any other books in the works? Goals for future projects?
The second in the Colorblind series is finished. (Cedar Fort will publish that and the other sequels if Blue does well.) I’m also working on one called The Best Man which is a cross between The Selection and Hunger Games.
What inspired you to want to become a writer?
Reading Roald Dahl and JK Rowling.
Tell us your most rewarding experience since being published.
Talking with a ten year old boy in the airport about my book. The kid was amazing and treated me as if I was already his favorite author. I love connecting with people!
If you could jump in to a book and live in that world, which would it be?
Harry Potter, hands down. Sign me up for Hogwarts baby!! (Wait, I wouldn’t be a muggle would I?)
What was your favorite book when you were a child/teen?
Matilda by Roald Dahl – read it at least 3 times
What’s one piece of advice you would give aspiring authors?
Read as many books on the craft as you can and write until your fingers fall off. (Oops, that was two pieces.)
If someone wrote a book about your life, what would the title be?
Even Nerds Need Love

Something your readers would never guess about you
I used to have hair.
What is your favorite scene in the book?
The climax. When Bruno… Wait, you don’t expect me to give away the ending, do you?
If you weren’t a human, what would you be?
An angel with enormous pecs.
What’s your favorite word?
Turd. I use it way more than I should. My kids are probably scarred for life.
What book do you love that doesn’t get a lot of hype??
The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss
What are you currently reading?
The 2nd book in The Slayers series by CJ Hill (and it’s awesome.)
What makes your novel standout from the crowd?
Who else has flaming hands on their cover?
